COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

This course is a historical-thematic survey of the Old Testament. Special attention will be given to the cultural background, theological and contextual perspectives, and the practical application of major Old Testament themes.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 

 Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to do the following:

  a. Understand the world of the Old Testament, its geography, history, and peoples.

  b. Understand the major teachings of the Old Testament and their relevance to Israel and the New Testament.

  c.  Read and study the Old Testament in its broad context.

  1. House, Paul R., and Eric Mitchell. Old Testament Survey. 2nd ed. Nashville: B&H Publishing Group, 2007.

   2. Mitchell, Eric, and Archie England. Old Testament Survey: A Student’s Guide. Nashville: B&H Publishing Group, 2007.

   3. The Holy Bible (preferably a modern version).

ORDERING CURRICULUM MATERIALS

Curriculum materials are distributed through the University Store.  All materials are shipped via FedEx Ground at the normal delivery rate. In the event that Express or second Day Air service is preferred, contact the University Store at (918) 495-6189 or (918) 495-6569, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central Standard Time, for the amount of additional postage required for this service. Fed Ex ground will not deliver to a post office box. Please provide a street address for shipping purposes. Curriculum orders may be called or faxed and charged on Visa, MasterCard, or Discover or mailed to the University. In order to ensure timely delivery,  curriculum orders should be received on month in advance.

State and federal laws require the ORU Bookstore to collect sales tax on out-of-state shipments.  In order to not be charged state sales tax, you must send or fax a copy of your ministry's tax exempt letter (or signed letter form the administrator stating that the items are for resale and that tax will be collected on those items) to the attention of the ORU Bookstore Textbook Cooordinator, fax number (918) 495-6242.  If you do not do this in advance, you will be charged tax for your next order, or your shipment will be delayed until the copy of tax exemption is received.

Note: All outstanding tuition payments, fees, etc., must be paid before ordering curriculum for the next semester.

COURSE LAYOUT

 

Each course is comprised of several segments and is designed to be completed in 12 weeks, depending on the course and student. Some segments include audio and/or video supplements to the written material. Most courses include a quiz. Some courses require a written assignment and a quiz. Class Books and Study materials will need to be purchased in addition to the tuition cost. 

A Diploma Certificate from Virginia Cawthorn Bible Institute and Oral Roberts Bible Institute will be issued once each course is completed with a passing grade.
